487 artists, including Bahram Beizai and Maryam Kashavarz, invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

According to Cinemadrame, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced on Tuesday that it has invited 487 artists to join. If all of these individuals accept the invitation, the Academy’s membership will reach 10,910, with 9,934 eligible to vote for the Oscars.

This year’s list includes DeVine Joy Randolph, the actress from The Holdovers; Holly Waddington, the costume designer for Poor Things; Mstislav Andriyvich Chernov, the director of 20 Days in Mariupol; Tatsuji Nojima, Kyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi, and Metakashi Yamazaki, from the visual effects team of Godzilla Minus One; Cord Jefferson, the director of American Fiction; Justine Triet, the director of Anatomy of a Fall; Lily Gladstone, the actress from Killers of the Flower Moon; Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick; and Celine Song and Greta Lee, the director and actress of Past Lives.

The Academy reports that 44% of the new members are women, 41% are from racial minorities, and 56% are from 56 different countries. In total, 71 nominees and 19 Oscar winners will be added to the Academy’s roster. Last year, the Academy invited 398 new members, but the record was set in 2018 with 928 new invitations.

Among the new Iranian members invited to join the Academy are Maryam Kashavarz, the director of The Persian Version; Bahram Beizai, the director of Killing Mad Dogs; Maral Mohammadian; and Yeganeh Moghaddam.
