Monica Bellucci to Star in Italian Film “Ketticè” Produced by Guadagnino

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Monica Bellucci will star in a film produced by Luca Guadagnino and directed by Giovanni Tortorici titled Ketticè. Variety has reported that filming for this project, which tells the story of an aristocratic family in Sicily, has begun in Palermo.
Set in Palermo in 2012, Ketticè follows the relationship between two sixteen-year-olds named Ketty and Giulio, who search for freedom under the judgmental gaze of adults. Monica Bellucci plays Giulio’s mother, who, like in real life, is a woman from Umbria married to a Sicilian aristocrat. Rachele Testagrossa and Salvatore Galina will play the roles of Ketty and Giulio.
Tortorici says that “Ketticè” is Ketty’s nickname in the Sicilian dialect:
“I wanted to depict Palermo in 2012 during the Berlusconi era. I can say that our generation—compared to the previous one, or even today’s youth—at sixteen was devoid of any idealism or social awareness. So, I wanted to portray that cultural stagnation that marked my own adolescence.”
Ketticè is Tortorici’s second film, following Diciannove (“Nineteen”), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and was screened in the United States last week.
