Return of Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando Confirmed for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the return of Bruce Banner/The Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, has been confirmed for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Ruffalo, 14 years after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Avengers, will once again reprise the role. Rumors of Ruffalo’s return surfaced several months ago, but with filming underway in the UK and script development progressing, his involvement has now been confirmed.
The Hollywood Reporter also states that Michael Mando, known for his role in Better Call Saul, will return as the villain “Scorpion”—a character he first portrayed in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
While plot details for Brand New Day remain under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Spider-Man, The Punisher, and The Hulk will face off against each other before teaming up to battle the film’s villains. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films have consistently featured star-studded casts, with Holland previously sharing the screen with Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The screenplay is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. In addition to Tom Holland, the return of Zendaya and Jacob Batalon has been confirmed, and Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas will appear in undisclosed roles. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher in this film.
Filming recently began in London and is expected to continue through the fall. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to follow Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Sony Pictures will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
