Amber Heard’s First Role After Johnny Depp Trial: Spirit of the People

According to CinamaDrame News Agency, Amber Heard has joined a theatrical project for the first time since her controversial defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. The 39-year-old Texas-born actress has become one of the cast members of “Spirit of the People,” which will be staged at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in July.

Other actors in this play will include “13 Reasons Why” star Brandon Flynn, Ato Blankson-Wood, Amandla Jahava, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, and Zachary Booth. The play is about “confronting uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.”

Jeremy O. Harris, the play’s writer, told Variety: “I wanted to challenge myself. Half of this play is in Spanish, while I don’t speak Spanish.”

Heard was briefly seen in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and the film “In the Fire” two years ago. Both projects were produced months before her and Depp’s trial in 2022.

Johnny Depp’s Statements on the Trial

Depp and Heard separated in 2017. After that, Heard published an article in The Washington Post calling herself a victim of domestic violence, which led Depp to sue her and the British newspaper The Sun.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor said this week that three people betrayed him during the Virginia trial. Depp told The Sunday Times: “Even though I am a strange person, I can be trusted on some matters. My commitment is the last thing anyone can question. I worked with an agent for thirty years, but this woman said in court how difficult it was to get along with me.”

Depp went on to criticize “bastards who lie to you” and said: “They say all sorts of terrible things behind your back but take money from you.”

Tracey Jacobs, Depp’s former agent from 1988 to 2016, was one of the individuals who testified in court, claiming that some studios were reluctant to work with Depp because he exhibited unprofessional behavior during filming.
