Reviews for the “Mesmerizing” Film “Die, My Love”: Jennifer Lawrence Better Than Ever

According to cinemadrame news agency, critics have praised Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in Lynne Ramsay’s film “Die, My Love.” The film, starring Robert Pattinson and Lawrence, premiered on Saturday night at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and received positive reviews. “Die, My Love’s” score on Rotten Tomatoes currently stands at 92% based on 13 reviews.
The film is adapted from the novel “Die, My Love” by Ariana Harwicz and tells the story of a woman who experiences severe mental health issues after childbirth in a remote French village. LaKeith Stanfield plays the woman’s lover, with Sissy Spacek and Nick Nolte also featuring in the film.

The Guardian critic writes that Lawrence demonstrates her excellence in this film, which is a study of “a woman on the verge of a psychological breakdown”: “Lawrence, as a woman suffering from bipolar disorder whose problems are exacerbated by her husband’s infidelity, played by Robert Pattinson, shows her superiority under Lynne Ramsay’s very strong direction.”
BBC writes: “‘Die, My Love‘ is a surreal and tense film, sometimes a bitter and absurd exploration of postpartum depression – though at times it seems to go far beyond that. Jennifer Lawrence as Grace is better than ever… The film has its flaws, but it is fundamentally atmospheric – a prolonged nervous breakdown – rather than a plot-driven drama.”
Deadline describes Ramsay’s film as “mesmerizing” and writes: “It’s a brutal but beautiful story. America knows very well how good Jennifer Lawrence can be, and this film could mean her fifth Oscar nomination if handled by the right people.” Another part of the review states: “This is a film that could take Ramsay to another stage of her filmmaking career.”
IndieWire is another publication that praises Lawrence’s performance, writing that she “turns feral” in Ramsay’s intensely effective film about “psychosexual, exhausting, postpartum madness.” Another part of the review notes: “Lawrence delivers a liberated performance as a mother in freefall, for which the Best Actress award at the festival was created.”
The Daily Beast critic is another admirer of Lawrence, considering her an Oscar contender: “J. Law’s captivating performance in ‘Die, My Love‘ is so good that she is expected to appear on the Oscar stage again.”
Similarly, Vanity Fair writes: “This cinema star, who sometimes appears reluctant, reminds us of all her abilities in this highlight of the Cannes Film Festival.”
Variety’s critic offered one of the few less positive reviews for “Die, My Love,” stating: “By the time the film reaches its burning, pleasurable, yet repetitive conclusion, you’ll wish you had watched another film.”
It seems there’s a strong consensus on Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in this film! Would you like to know more about Lynne Ramsay’s other works or perhaps the novel it’s based on?
