Bill Maher to Immigrants: “It’s Not Your Fault You Weren’t Born in America”

According to cinemadrame news agency, American host and comedian Bill Maher had a heated debate this week with Latino actor John Leguizamo about immigration. In the discussion, Maher used an offensive term to describe developing countries, stating that anyone who immigrates sees their country that way, otherwise they wouldn’t leave their homeland.

When Maher criticized Joe Biden‘s immigration policies on “Club Random” podcast, the “Romeo and Juliet” actor responded: “Come on, there’s plenty of space in America. There’s no shortage of space in this country.”

Maher replied: “But it’s not about space; it’s about resources. Countries need to have borders. I mean, they asked about 200 million people worldwide in a poll, ‘If you could, would you come to America?’ [They answered:] ‘Yes, I would.’ Why wouldn’t they come? I’m sorry, many countries are s***holes, and they’d love to come here.”

The “Real Time” host used a term that Donald Trump reportedly used in 2018 regarding African and undeveloped countries.

When Leguizamo responded that “those countries are not s***holes,” Maher continued: “They are. That’s why they want to come.”

Leguizamo explained that US interventions in many Latin American countries have led to their underdevelopment: “[America] crushed all blossoming democracies and then destroyed them to get their oil and resources.”

Maher, however, continued to criticize the illegal entry of immigrants into the US: “It’s not your fault you live in a shole. It doesn’t mean you’re a s person. You were born there by bad luck, and I understand why you want to come here.”

Maher was a long-time critic of Donald Trump but made a significant shift in the recent election and even met with him.
