$23 Million Opening Night for The Fantastic Four: First Steps

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Disney and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has grossed over $23 million on its opening night in the United States and Canada, making it the second superhero film in the past two weeks to achieve this milestone. Deadline reports that the film is on track to earn between $100 million and $110 million domestically over its first three days.

First Steps leads the 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe releases in opening-night sales. Thunderbolts earned nearly $11.5 million on its opening night and set records of $31.8 million on day one and $74.3 million over its first three days. These figures are also 92% better than Captain America: Brave New World, which had $12 million previews, $40.9 million on day one, and an $88.8 million domestic opening.

The film, directed by Matt Shakman, holds an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, matching Thunderbolts, while Deadpool & Wolverine scored 78%.

With First Steps, the Marvel Cinematic Universe marks its twelfth film with a preview exceeding $20 million. The record-holder in this franchise remains Avengers: Endgame, which grossed $60 million on its opening night in 2019.

First Steps’ opening night sales closely approach the $22.5 million previews of James Gunn’s Superman, which had two early screenings including $2.8 million in special early showings for Amazon Prime subscribers. Superman earned $56.1 million domestically on its first day and $125 million in its opening weekend, receiving an A- CinemaScore and an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

RelishMix has described social media discussions about The Fantastic Four: First Steps as positive, noting Marvel fans’ enthusiasm for seeing the villainous character Galactus.

The film’s story is set in a retro-futuristic 1960s world where the Fantastic Four are astronauts preparing for space travel. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Iban Mass Bucurac as Ben Grimm (The Thing), Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal, Paul Walter Hauser as Mole Man, and The Green Knight as Galactus.
