Former Superman Actor: I Cried Three Times Watching David Corenswet’s Film

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Brandon Routh, the former actor who played Superman, praised David Corenswet’s new Superman film written and directed by James Gunn in an interview with Variety, saying he cried twice while watching it.

The 45-year-old actor, who portrayed the role in the 2006 film Superman Returns, described Gunn’s film as “very entertaining” and said, “I really enjoyed watching it. I think David [Corenswet] was incredible. I cried at least three times.”

Routh added that his experience playing the role gave him a “different perspective” on Gunn’s film: “I saw it from a different angle. I really got involved, especially seeing how he handled Superman’s difficult moments during his first conversation with Lois and Clark in the apartment. And then the family scenes in the film really moved me. It’s a big movie. There’s a lot going on in it. I’ll have to watch it again.”

The Iowa-born actor, whose new film Ick is releasing in theaters this week, said watching Superman has made him excited about the future of the DC universe: “I’m genuinely excited about the potential of the DC world. A strong start with this film is good for everyone who wants DC to have more stories to tell.”

Corenswet had told Men’s Health that the Superman character had been “oversimplified” in previous versions.
