A “Donkey Kong” Movie is in the Works
According to cinemadrame News Agency, Universal and Nintendo are developing a “Donkey Kong” movie. Documents released from the copyright registration application of these two companies on June 6th of this year indicate that another cinematic adaptation of video games is on the way.
Seth Rogen, who voiced Donkey Kong in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” previously stated that this character has high potential for a standalone film. This project is being developed after “The Super Mario Bros.” movie grossed $1.3 billion in 2024. That film broke many records and became the highest-grossing film adapted from video games in history.
Nintendo and Universal have confirmed a sequel to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and a live-action “The Legend of Zelda” film. “The Super Mario Bros. 2” is set to be released in the spring of 2026, and “The Legend of Zelda” on March 26, 2027.
