A sequel to Bend It Like Beckham is in the works

According to CinemaDrame news agency, More than two decades after Bend It Like Beckham inspired a generation of female footballers, director Gurinder Chadha has announced that a sequel is in development.
Chadha says she hopes the new installment will be released in 2027 to mark the 25th anniversary of the original film’s premiere, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup. However, it has not yet been decided whether the project will take the form of a feature film or a television series.
Speaking to The Guardian, Chadha said she has received requests for a sequel since 2002 but had been waiting for a worthy story to tell—and now she’s finally found it: “Women’s football is more competitive, exciting, and global than ever. It’s a huge honor for me to have played a small part in that movement.”
Chadha expressed hope that Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, and other original cast members will return, and that members of the England women’s national football team will make cameo appearances. She is co-writing the screenplay with Emma Hayes, head coach of the U.S. women’s national team.
Bend It Like Beckham was made on a £3.5 million budget and went on to gross around £60 million worldwide after its 2002 release.
