Alberto Barbera, the artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, announced the official lineup for the 2025 edition during a press conference a few hours ago. This year’s festival will take place from August 27 to September 6

According to CinemaDrame news agency, After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stalberg, and Chloe Sevigny, is one of the star-studded films to be screened out of competition.


In the main competition section, Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, will premiere. The film is scheduled for a limited release on November 14, 2024, before launching on Netflix on December 5.

Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, will screen for the first time in competition alongside A House Of Dynamite by Kathryn Bigelow and Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch.

In The Hand Of Dante, directed by Julian Schnabel and also starring Oscar Isaac, will be shown out of competition. The film features Martin Scorsese, Gerard Butler, and Gal Gadot.

Additionally, the latest works from Werner Herzog, Lucrecia Martel, Laura Poitras, and Sofia Coppola will be screened out of competition. The film Divine Comedy, directed by Ali Asgari, will make its debut in the festival’s Orizzonti (Horizons) section.

In the documentary category, Megadoc, directed by Mike Figgis about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, will be shown. Charlie Kaufman’s short film How To Shoot A Ghost will also screen out of competition.

It was previously announced that this edition of the festival will open with La Grazia, directed by Paolo Sorrentino, and the Honorary Golden Lion will be awarded to Kim Novak. Alexander Payne will preside over the competition jury, with Mohammad Rasoulof as one of its members.
