Amir Samavati Passes Away

Amir Samavati, a film and television actor and producer, passed away a few hours ago at the age of 65 in a Tehran hospital.
According to cinemadrame News Agency, Samavati’s son confirmed the news, stating: “My father suffered a heart complication last night and underwent surgery today, but unfortunately passed away in the ICU.”
Last year, Amir Samavati acted as a film producer in Danesh Aghbashavi’s film “Zapata.” One of the enduring works of Iranian cinema, “Deep Breath” (Nafas-e Amigh), was produced by him.
Amir Samavati won the award for Best Film at the 21st Fajr Film Festival with “Deep Breath.” He also participated in the 23rd Fajr Festival with the film “Café Transit,” again winning the Best Film award in that edition. His last film, “Darband” (The Enclosure), was screened at the 31st Fajr Film Festival and also won the award for Best Film.
One of his last appearances was in the international section of the 32nd International Fajr Film Festival with the film “With Others” (Ba Digaran), which received a special honorary diploma from the jury.
From 2000 to 2016 (1379 to 1395 in the Persian calendar), he produced works such as “At the End of Evin,” “Shock Elementary,” “Deep Breath,” “Café Transit,” “Love Story,” “Red Garden,” “Everything Is Calm,” “National Alley,” “Darband,” “Five Star,” “With Others,” “The Resident of the Middle Floor,” and “Kaka.”
He also directed the film “Red Garden” and acted in “Half Past Eight,” “Darband,” “Rhinoceros,” “In the Role of Kazem’s Father,” and “Wound.”
He was born in Hamadan in 1959 (1338 in the Persian calendar). He held a bachelor’s degree in directing and editing and was also the CEO of the Derakhshan Aftab Alamtab Film Production and Distribution Institute, which is the first knowledge-based cinematic company and a member of Alborz Science and Technology Park.
Between 1981 and 2001 (1360 to 1380 in the Persian calendar), Samavati was a producer and director for various television series and programs, including “Mr. Kheirkhah’s Adventures,” “Neighbors Across the Street,” and “Children of Iran.” He also participated in the production of summer and autumn mixed programs, the “Mahaleh” (Neighborhood) competition, and the “Human, Car, and Skill” competition.
