Angelina Jolie and Doug Liman Reunite for Spy Thriller The Initiative

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Angelina Jolie will reunite with Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman for the spy thriller The Initiative.
Variety reports that Universal Pictures is in negotiations to acquire the project. F. Scott Frazier, whose credits include Collide and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, is writing the screenplay.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the project appears to mark Jolie’s return to the genre she explored with Salt, The Tourist, and Wanted.
Jeff Kirschenbaum, who produced Disney’s Maleficent films starring Jolie, will produce The Initiative through Roth/Kirschenbaum Films.
Jolie, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted, was most recently seen in Pablo Larraín’s Maria, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of Maria Callas. She will soon present Alice Winocour’s Couture at the New York Film Festival and is set to star in the film adaptation of Anxious People, directed by Marc Forster.
Liman recently directed the Road House remake for Prime Video and The Instigators for Apple TV+. He previously helmed The Bourne Identity (2002) and American Made (2017) for Universal, and is set to direct an upcoming space-set feature with Tom Cruise for the studio.
