Bob Odenkirk’s Normal to Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Normal, directed by Ben Wheatley and starring Bob Odenkirk, will have its world premiere in the “Midnight Madness” section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. Wheatley’s Free Fire previously won the People’s Choice Award in this same section back in 2016.

The film follows a man named Ulysses, played by Odenkirk, who temporarily takes over as sheriff of a small town following the sudden death of its former lawman. When two strangers attempt to rob the town’s bank, Ulysses steps in—only to uncover dark and sinister secrets lurking beneath the surface of the town. Winkler plays the mayor of Normal, while Lena Headey appears as a bartender named Moira.

Wheatley, known for Meg 2: The Trench, directs from a script by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad. Odenkirk and Kolstad recently collaborated on Nobody 2.

Also premiering at TIFF is Dust Bunny, the directorial debut of Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller. The story follows an eight-year-old girl who enlists her neighbor to kill the monster hiding under her bed—a creature she believes has eaten her family. The film stars David Dastmalchian, Mads Mikkelsen, and Sigourney Weaver.

The Midnight Madness section will open with Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. The 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 4 to 14.
