Brian Cox: Give the Role of James Bond to Cillian Murphy

According to the CinemaDrame news agency, Brian Cox says Cillian Murphy would be the best choice to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. The Succession actor is the host of the television game show 007: Road to a Million and will return for its second season.
In a new interview with Radio Times, the 79-year-old Scottish actor said the Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer star would be an “interesting” choice for the role: “It only makes sense if it changes, because we start young and then get older. Have they suggested Cillian Murphy? I think he could be interesting. I like Cillian. He’s very real—there’s nothing you can fault him for.”
If Murphy were to be cast as James Bond, he would once again collaborate with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who has been commissioned by Amazon MGM to write the screenplay. The studio has tapped Denis Villeneuve—known for Dune—to direct.
Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has previously endorsed Murphy for the role, saying: “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond in Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Murphy responded to Brosnan’s suggestion by saying: “That ship has sailed… I think I’m a bit too old for that role.”
Variety has reported that Amazon is looking for a “British actor under 30” to play James Bond and is currently considering candidates including Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi.
