Brian Cox: Trump Is a Very Good Example of a Villain

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Brian Cox, star of HBO’s Succession, says U.S. President Donald Trump is “a very good example of a villain” because he has no sense of “empathy.”
The 79-year-old Scottish actor, who last year called Trump a “dangerous liar” and a “monster,” told The Telegraph this week that the man possesses all the traits of a villain.

Cox said:
“I think Donald Trump is a very good example of a villain because he has no understanding of empathy. He’s clever and shouldn’t be underestimated, but personally I don’t like the man.”
The actor, who plays Logan Roy in Succession and lives in both London and Brooklyn, described Trump as “a selfish force” who is steering the United States toward oligarchy:
“In such a country, someone who is selfish only creates an oligarchy, and that’s the direction he’s going in. It won’t work.”
Cox added:
“It will take time before America finally realizes — and it’s realizing on a daily basis. More and more people are becoming aware of what’s going on — because it’s the people who are getting hurt, and he’s supposed to be supporting them.”
In May, Cox called Trump’s proposed 100% tariffs on non-American films “a complete disaster” and told Radio Times that the U.S. government fails to properly understand why film production costs in the country have risen — calling it “untrue to say Hollywood has been neglected.”
Following last year’s presidential election, Cox said he wanted to spend more time in the U.K. Asked by The Guardian whether the election result had made him lose faith in people, he said:
“No, it hasn’t made me lose faith in people. It’s made me realize that people are stupid. We have to prepare for one of those very tough four-year periods.”
In another interview with Deadline, he said:
“How can this country vote for such a disgusting human being? And yet, you see that part of the country admires him. What do they admire? What do they want? It’s so disappointing. I feel that kind of disappointment in the human experience.”
