Dave Bautista Joins Henry Cavill in Highlander Reboot

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Dave Bautista will join Henry Cavill in Amazon MGM’s reboot of Highlander, playing a villainous character. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy star is in negotiations with Amazon. Earlier reports indicated that Russell Crowe would also star in the film.

Chad Stahelski, known for John Wick, is directing the movie, and Michael Finch is writing the screenplay based on the cult classic from the 1980s. Filming is scheduled to begin in late September in the UK and Hong Kong.

In the original film, Christopher Lambert played the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, and Sean Connery portrayed the swordsman Ramirez, who hunted each other in pursuit of greater power. Cavill and Crowe will take on the new roles of MacLeod and Ramirez, while Marisa Abela will appear in a different role. Bautista will play an immortal barbarian named Krogan, who has killed other immortals over the centuries. This role was originally played by Clancy Brown in the first film.

Bautista came close to this role back in 2015 when another version was in development. In recent months, some fans have called for Bautista to face off against Cavill and imagined him in a fan-made trailer.

The 56-year-old actor recently starred in My Spy and its sequel on Amazon, will appear opposite Jason Momoa in The Wrecking Crew, and is involved in Amazon’s Roadhouse sequel project.
