Eddie Murphy: “I’m Inspector Clouseau”—Says Pink Panther Remake Is Still Alive

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Nearly two years after entering talks to star in a Pink Panther reboot, Eddie Murphy says the project is still in development and will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

In a new interview with Al Roker, Murphy discussed his upcoming projects, including Shrek 5 and a George Clinton biopic, and added: “I’m Inspector Clouseau in the new Pink Panther film.”
When the host expressed surprise and asked, “Wait, what?” Murphy continued: “Yes, I’m the new Clouseau. Maybe… he’s from Haiti [not France]. But he’s definitely Black. Black.”
The Pink Panther is MGM’s oldest and most successful comedy franchise, created by Blake Edwards, the late husband of Julie Andrews Edwards. Mirisch Company first produced The Pink Panther in 1964, with Peter Sellers starring as the iconic French detective. Edwards wrote and directed eight films in the series, and Henry Mancini’s memorable score was nominated for an Oscar. That same year, the first animated feature was produced, and The Pink Panther Show ran from 1969 to 1994.
Alan Arkin played Clouseau in Inspector Clouseau (1968), and Roger Moore briefly took on the role in Curse of the Pink Panther. Roberto Benigni starred in Son of the Pink Panther, and a decade later, Steve Martin appeared in the role for a new generation. Jeff Fowler, known for Sonic the Hedgehog, is attached to direct the new Pink Panther remake.
