Eric Idle: Being Expelled from the U.S. is an Honor

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Eric Idle, the “Monty Python” actor, states that being expelled from the United States for his harsh criticism of Donald Trump would be “an honor” for him.

In a new interview with The Guardian, ahead of his first UK comedy tour since 1973, he says: “Trump has no funny side. What’s funny is for him to leave, and for us to have a big celebration and dance in the streets. Trump’s capacity for idiocy seems endless. In my opinion, he is a traitorous monster working for Putin.”

Idle adds: “Every summer I go to France because I can’t stand the news. I can’t hear about him every minute of the day. In America, they are severely obsessed with him. It’s as if they are addicted to him.”

The 83-year-old comedian, who has lived in Los Angeles for decades, likens the possibility of expulsion from the U.S. to Charlie Chaplin’s exile in 1952, adding: “If that happens, I’ll be in very select company.”

Idle was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, but The Guardian describes him as “vibrant.” This autumn, the comedian will tour nine UK cities with his “Look on the Bright Side of Life” tour.

The “Life of Brian” actor claims that U.S. border agents search comedians’ mobile phones for anti-Trump images.
