Filming of The Batman 2 Confirmed to Start Spring 2026

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Warner Bros. Studios announced in a letter to shareholders that the film The Batman Part II, starring Robert Pattinson, will enter production in spring 2026 and is scheduled for release in October 2027. Pattinson, who is currently filming The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan and Dune: Part Three this year, will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, in the sequel.

This letter was sent simultaneously with the successful release of James Gunn’s Superman and its passing of $550 million in worldwide box office revenue. Part of the letter reads:
“The universe of DC characters is not only one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s most valuable intellectual properties, but also one of the most valuable assets in the entertainment industry.”

Warner Bros. further explains that Gunn currently has Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, and a new Wonder Woman in development:
“The 10-year plan for the DC universe also includes television projects such as The Penguin, a new season of The Peacemaker, and the airing of Lanterns in 2026.”

Production of The Batman 2 was confirmed in April 2022, nearly a month after the first film’s release. The first installment featured Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.

The first Batman film, directed by Matt Reeves, grossed $722 million worldwide. A delay in the scriptwriting for the sequel caused Warner Bros. to postpone its release from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027. In June, Warner confirmed that Reeves had finally delivered the script for The Batman 2.

Gunn previously defended the five-year gap between the first and second Batman films, saying:
“If we’re fair, a five-year or longer gap for sequels is fairly common… Matt [Reeves] is committed to making the best possible film, and no one can exactly predict how long writing the script will take. Once the script is finished, big films typically need about two years for pre-production, filming, and post-production.”

The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled for release in October 2027 (Mehr 1406 in the Iranian calendar).
