First behind-the-scenes images from Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, as filming begins on Narnia, directed by Greta Gerwig, the first behind-the-scenes images have been shared on social media. Production on this adaptation was confirmed nearly three years ago.
The Netflix film is reportedly based on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis, the sixth novel in the series, which serves as a prequel to the Narnia saga. The story follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who discover the magical world of Narnia through the magic of Digory’s uncle. Emma Mackey, best known for Sex Education, will play the White Witch, and Meryl Streep will portray Aslan. Daniel Craig is expected to appear as Uncle Andrew.
However, these images suggest that Gerwig may have shifted the setting of Lewis’s novel from the Victorian era to the 20th century, specifically the 1950s. In some of the photos, Gerwig is seen alongside two currently unknown actors portraying Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer.
Following months of negotiations, IMAX has agreed to release Narnia exclusively in theaters worldwide for two weeks before it begins streaming on Netflix. Production will continue until early 2026, with the film set to debut on both Netflix and in IMAX theaters in late 2026.
