According to the CinemaDrame news agency, Anemone, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, will premiere at the 63rd New York Film Festival. Day-Lewis is coming out of an eight-year retirement to appear in his son’s film.

Ronan Day-Lewis, son of Daniel Day-Lewis, is making his feature directorial debut with Anemone. Ronan and Daniel co-wrote the screenplay for Fox, and Brad Pitt is among the project’s producers through Plan B.

The drama is described as a story about “relationships between fathers, sons, and brothers, and the bonds of family.” The cast also includes Samantha Morton, Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. Ben Fordesman (Love Lies Bleeding) serves as cinematographer, Jane Petrie (The Crown) as costume designer, and Chris Oddy (The Zone of Interest) as production designer.

The Gangs of New York and In the Name of the Father actor announced his retirement after receiving an Oscar nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread in 2017—having previously announced his retirement once before in 1996 following The Boxer.

The New York Film Festival has also announced that the documentary Mr. Scorsese and Ben Stiller’s Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost will screen in the “Spotlight” section. This year’s festival will run from September 24 (Mehr 2, 1404) to October 13 (Mehr 21, 1404), opening with Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt.

Richard Linklater will present two films, Blue Moon and Nouvelle Vague, in the “Spotlight” section, while Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere will screen as a special presentation.

Fox will release Anemone in limited theaters on October 3, followed by a wide release on October 10 (Mehr 18, 1404).
