“Gandhi and Partners” by Masoumeh Safaeirad, a Travelogue to India, Published

According to cinemadrame News Agency, the book “Gandhi and Partners” by Masoumeh Safaeirad, a travelogue to India, has been published.
In the publisher’s introduction to this book, it states: The author narrates her observations and experiences from her journey to this country, especially the holding of Muharram ceremonies there.
Safaeirad, in this book, focuses on the atmosphere of Muharram ceremonies in the cities of Mumbai and Hyderabad, India; regions that comprise the majority of India’s Shia population.
This book, like the author’s other travelogues such as “Istanbulchi,” “With Coffee and Pita,” and “Run Tigris Run,” demonstrates her effort to present a cultural and ritualistic image of societies similar to Iran outside its borders.
An excerpt from the book: “I was looking for a home rowzeh (mourning ceremony) everywhere in the world. I asked everyone I could think of in Baku. I looked for it in Istanbul and also in Iraq. Before my trip to India, I had asked everyone I knew to find a rowzeh in a home for me, and through a friend living in India, I had gotten a name and number of a lady in Hyderabad who could take me to a rowzeh with her; Sughra DiDi! It was the second day in Hyderabad, and I had seen the city as much as I wanted, and now I had to discover what was beneath its skin, so I made an appointment with Sughra DiDi. They had told me to call her that. There, they didn’t call each other with ‘Ms.’ and ‘Mr.’ suffixes and prefixes. They would say Abji and Dadash. Sughra DiDi means Sister Sughra!
The book “Gandhi and Partners,” illustrated in 264 pages and priced at 295,000 Tomans, has been published by Soureh Mehr Publications.
