Golshifteh Farahani to Receive Honorary Award at Locarno Film Festival

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Golshifteh Farahani will be honored with the “Davide Campari” award at the Locarno Film Festival. The 42-year-old Iranian-French actress, known for her role in Paterson, will travel to Switzerland for the ceremony, which will be held on August 6, coinciding with the screening of Alpha, directed by Julia Ducournau.

Farahani rose to fame with The Pear Tree, directed by Dariush Mehrjui, a performance that earned her the Best Actress award at the Fajr International Film Festival. Since then, she has appeared in Shirin by Abbas Kiarostami, About Elly by Asghar Farhadi, Extraction alongside Chris Hemsworth, and Body of Lies directed by Ridley Scott.

Previous recipients of the award include Willem Dafoe, John Malkovich, Susan Sarandon, Anjelica Huston, Gael García Bernal, and Edward Norton.

The Locarno Festival describes Farahani as “charismatic and multifaceted,” adding that “over the years, she has successfully navigated between arthouse cinema and blockbusters, revealing a new facet of herself with each film. Honoring Golshifteh Farahani means celebrating an extraordinary artist who has left a lasting impression on the eyes and hearts of all cinema lovers.”

The Locarno Film Festival will run from August 6 to 16, 2025.
