Ice Cube’s War of the Worlds Scores 0% on Rotten Tomatoes

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, negative reviews for the remake of “War of the Worlds” have pushed its Rotten Tomatoes score down to 0%. Universal Studios recently released this new adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel via Prime Video.

Ice Cube stars in the film, directed by Rich Lee, as a cybersecurity analyst who realizes that the real threat doesn’t come from the sky, but emerges from within the very organization he serves.

Other cast members include Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Henry Hunter Hall, Dewan Bostick, Andrea Sooch, and Michael O’Neill. The screenplay was written by Kent Gold and Mark Heyman.

The first film adaptation of “War of the Worlds” was made in 1958 starring Gene Barry, and the second in 2005 starring Tom Cruise and directed by Steven Spielberg.

The new adaptation’s score on Rotten Tomatoes has not risen above 0% based on 12 reviews, while the audience score stands at 11%. “War of the Worlds” is currently the second most-watched film on the Prime Video streaming platform.

A Variety critic likens the film to an extended commercial for Amazon products, while an NBC 4 critic writes that this “screenlife” thriller tries to bring Wells’ classic into the digital age: “But it fails not only as entertainment, but even as a film.”

“War of the Worlds” will premiere on Prime Video on July 30.
