Imam Musa Sadr for the First Time

The book Miriam is a memoir by Rabab Sadr, the sister of Imam Musa Sadr, recently published. The book reflects over half a century of the author’s personal experiences in political, social, and cultural fields. It offers new insights into the abduction of Imam Musa Sadr, recounting events from one of his family members’ perspectives for the first time. It also discusses the ongoing pursuit of justice and the various interactions with international leaders and officials in recent years regarding the case.
Imam Musa Sadr, the Iranian cleric and leader of the Shiite community in Lebanon, was abducted on September 9, 1978, during a visit to Libya to meet with Muammar Gaddafi. The book sheds light on the search for the truth behind his disappearance and the efforts to resolve the case, detailing Rabab Sadr’s relentless pursuit of the matter over the years.
In Miriam, Rabab Sadr recounts her perspective on the causes of her brother’s abduction, the related political forces and countries, and her role in continuing to advocate for justice. The book also touches on her early life in Qom, her move to Lebanon, and her social and cultural contributions there. Through her narrative, the reader is introduced to her efforts during Lebanon’s civil war and Israeli occupation, as well as her work in advancing women’s education and empowerment in the absence of her brother.
The book is structured into seven chapters, covering various phases of Rabab Sadr’s life, including her personal memories, the political context of the abduction, her family’s role in pursuing justice, and the broader socio-political impact of Imam Musa Sadr’s work in Lebanon.
Published by Sima-ye Khaterat Institute, Miriam is based on 32 interviews conducted between 2012 and 2022 by Hamid Ghazvini with Rabab Sadr, and it forms the ninth volume of the Oral History of Imam Musa Sadr series. It is available in 662 pages, priced at 415,000 Tomans.
