Italian Producer of “Ferrari” to Make Bruce McLaren Biopic

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Andrea Iervolino, the Italian producer behind major motorsport films, has announced his next project: a biographical film about Bruce McLaren. Iervolino previously produced Ferrari and Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, and is currently developing Maserati: The Brothers starring Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino.

The legendary New Zealand driver and engineer, who died young, left a lasting legacy in Formula 1 history. He founded the McLaren Racing team, which remains an iconic name in the sport to this day. The upcoming film will trace McLaren’s journey from local racing circuits in New Zealand to his success in Formula 1, where he became the youngest Grand Prix winner at the age of 22, and will also recount his tragic death in 1970 while testing the M8D at the Goodwood Circuit.

Iervolino’s film will portray a man who overcame significant physical and personal challenges from an early age. At nine, McLaren was diagnosed with a rare bone disorder known as Perthes disease, which affected his left hip and forced him to spend more than two years in hospital.

“Bruce McLaren’s life is a remarkable example of how adversity can lead to greatness,” says Iervolino. “A child confined to a hospital bed who became a genius of speed—he didn’t just race, he built, innovated, and inspired. This film is not only a tribute to his career, but a celebration of a brilliant mind and an indomitable spirit. Our goal is to tell the story of a man who turned suffering into vision, and physical limitation into a driving force for excellence.”

The project will be filmed in New Zealand and the UK, with the collaboration of the McLaren family.
