James Gunn Wants to Work With Meryl Streep: “One of the Greatest Actors in History”; Says the DC Universe Is More Like Game of Thrones Than the MCU

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, James Gunn, director of Superman and one of the two heads of DC Studios, says he would love to work with Meryl Streep. In a recent interview with Nick Viall’s podcast, the filmmaker called Streep “one of the greatest actors in history.”

Speaking about the star of Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Iron Lady, Gunn said: “It would be an incredible thing. I love Meryl Streep. She is one of the greatest actors in history.”

He was answering a question about whether there was any actor he wished to collaborate with: “Yes, there are thousands of actors I would like to work with. And some of them I’ve never worked with before.”

Last year, Sarah Halley Finn, Marvel Studios’ casting director, told Variety that Streep could play “any role she wanted” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Asked if Marvel had ever offered the 76-year-old actress a role, she replied: “Maybe. But we haven’t found the right role yet.”

In another interview with Chris Hardwick’s podcast, Gunn said that the project DC Studios will shoot after Supergirl will likely be The Batman II, followed by the Superman sequel.

Currently on the press tour for season two of Peacemaker, Gunn told Interview Magazine that the new DCU resembles Game of Thrones and Star Wars more than the MCU: “Actually, I think it’s more like the world of Game of Thrones or Star Wars, because we’re building a universe and then taking little pieces of it and telling the individual stories of that world.”

Meanwhile, Streep is currently filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 alongside Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway.
