Jenna Ortega: Wednesday Is Undoubtedly a Feminist Series

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jenna Ortega says in a recent interview with Radio Times that there is no doubt Netflix’s “Wednesday” is a feminist series. Part two of the show’s second season, directed and produced by Tim Burton, will be released soon.

Asked whether “Wednesday” is feminist, Ortega responded: “Yes, without a doubt. In fact, I think the whole series should be inspiring for everyone, but I’m proud of the strength of the show’s female characters.”

This supernatural comedy follows Ortega’s Wednesday as she learns to harness her psychic abilities at Nevermore Academy. The show introduces multiple multidimensional female characters, including Morticia Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Ortega says “Wednesday” continues the legacy of compelling stories and characters from “The Addams Family,” noting that beyond the Addams family members, Wednesday’s friends—such as Enid, played by Emma Myers, and Bianca, played by Joy Sunday—have “very complex and multi-layered identities.” Ortega also praises the performances of Zeta-Jones and Dame Joanna Lumley as Grandmama.

Steve Buscemi (“The Big Lebowski”), Billie Piper (“Scoop”), Evie Templeton (“Return to Silent Hill”), Owen Painter (“Tiny Beautiful Things”), Lady Gaga, and Noah Taylor (“Law & Order: Organized Crime”) are among the new cast members joining season two, alongside Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Moosa Mostafa, Victor Dorobantu, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Isaac Ordonez.

Part one of Wednesday’s second season will premiere on August 6, 2025 (15 Mordad 1404). Netflix has confirmed production of a third season.
