John Cusack: Only Iranians Have Defended Civilization

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, John Cusack, the American actor known for Say Anything and 2012, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that only Iranians have been defenders of civilization in the Israel-Palestine war.

He was responding to a post by Dr. Samer Al-Barghouthi, who said that Israel’s claim of “defending Western civilization” is a false narrative. Cusack wrote:
“The only people who have defended civilization – were the Iranians.”
A day later on X, he added: “And Yemen.”

Previously, on the social network Bluesky, Cusack stated that the flags of Israel and the United States have become symbols of “genocide”:
“I believe in justice, human rights, and the dignity of all people, and I oppose prejudice and hate directed at any group on the basis of race, religion, identity, or ethnicity. Nations and their flags represent many things— but to many, the flags of Israel and the United States have now become flags of genocide.”

After the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Cusack said:
“Iran will, and should, definitely build nuclear weapons— it’s the only way to prevent the United States and Israel from bombing every country in the Middle East.”

Cusack had also previously referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as “Nazis” on Bluesky:
“This Nazi organization, under orders from Trump and [Stephen] Miller the Nazi, and the rest of the [Charles] Manson government, terrifies legal immigrants at work and in schools, kidnaps them and throws them in prison— without any legal process, without due process. Pure Nazi thuggery.”
