Johnny Depp Collaborates with Ridley Scott on Graphic Novel Hyde

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Johnny Depp is teaming up with Mechanical Cake to create the graphic novel Hyde, inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Depp, along with Ridley Scott and Mechanical Cake, will co-own the project, which is set to be released this October.
Written by Mechanical Cake CEO Jesse Negron, Hyde follows Mr. Hyde after he overcomes his alter ego, Dr. Jekyll. The character—whose appearance will resemble Johnny Depp—hides in the sewers of London and uses a serum to transform others into versions of Hyde. The graphic novel will be illustrated by Gary Erskine and Chris Weston, with Dave Elliott contributing as a writer.
In a statement, Depp said: “To create within the masterful characters of Robert Louis Stevenson’s world, and to embrace Ridley Scott’s artistic vision… this rare opportunity to explore has been a surprise for me. And I hope it is for him as well. To have someone like Ridley place his trust in me is both unbelievable and beautiful.”
The graphic novel will be unveiled this week at San Diego Comic-Con under the title Hyde: When the Worlds of Graphic Novels and Movies Collide.
Scott Free, Ridley Scott’s production company, will also be involved in publishing two additional graphic novels, Modville and Nick.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has rarely appeared on screen since his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. He recently directed Modì (Three Days on the Wing of Madness) and has filmed Day Drinker alongside Penélope Cruz.
