Kevin Hart and John Cena Join Netflix Action-Comedy The Leading Man

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Kevin Hart and John Cena have joined the cast of Netflix’s action-comedy The Leading Man. Written by Jon Huber and Eric Huber, the film is based on the comic book series by Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore.

The Hubers previously collaborated with Netflix on the upcoming Fast & Loose, starring Will Smith, after selling the screenplay to the streamer. Earlier this week, it was reported that Michael Bay had departed Fast & Loose due to creative differences with Smith.

The Leading Man follows an egotistical movie star, played by John Cena, who discovers that his co-star — a crew member played by Kevin Hart — is actually an undercover agent, forcing him to realize that movie stars aren’t the real heroes.

Hart will produce the project alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Brian Smiley through his Hartbeat banner, which has a deal with Netflix. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum of Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, along with Cena and Dan Baime, will also produce.

Hart joins The Leading Man while in production on 72 Hours, another Netflix comedy directed by Tim Story. His past projects for the streamer include Fatherhood, Me Time, The Man from Toronto, Lift, and the limited series True Story.

Cena recently starred in the Netflix comedy Little Brother opposite Eric André and appeared in Amazon MGM’s Heads of State, which has drawn over 75 million viewers on Prime Video since its July 2 release. His upcoming projects include Coyote vs. Acme, Apple’s live-action Matchbox from Mattel and Skydance, and Season Two of Peacemaker for HBO Max.
