Matt Smith Joins Ryan Gosling in “Star Wars: Starfighter”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Matt Smith, known for his roles in Doctor Who and House of the Dragon, has joined Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth in the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter. The film will be directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper.

According to Deadline, Smith will play one of the villains in Starfighter, with Levy selecting him for a key role after meeting with several actors.

The story is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, which was released in 2019. Filming is expected to begin this fall.

Last year, Smith appeared in the second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, and he will soon be seen in Caught Stealing—directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz. Another upcoming project for Smith is the miniseries The Death of Bunny Munro.

Starfighter will be the second Star Wars film released after The Mandalorian and Grogu—coming next year—since The Rise of Skywalker, which grossed $1.077 billion worldwide.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set for release on May 28, 2027.
