Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White in Talks to Join The Social Network 2

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Oscar-winning Anora actress Mikey Madison and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) are in negotiations to join The Social Network 2.

Deadline reports that while the project’s budget has not yet been set, Aaron Sorkin has proposed both actors for lead roles to Sony Pictures. In June, it was reported that Sorkin would write and direct the sequel, which will explore further chapters in the stories of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg. Sorkin is producing the film alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, if negotiations are finalized, Madison will play Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower, and White will portray Jeff Horwitz, former Wall Street Journal reporter. Jesse Eisenberg’s return as Mark Zuckerberg has not been confirmed.

Although the film is titled The Social Network 2, it will not be a direct sequel to the original, which chronicled the founding of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to fame. Sorkin’s script for the new film will focus on the exposé series known as “The Facebook Files,” written by Jeff Horwitz for The Wall Street Journal and published in October 2021, revealing how the world’s largest social network operates.

The first Social Network film, directed by David Fincher, was released in 2010 and grossed $226 million worldwide. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won three, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin.

In March, Madison won the Oscar for Best Actress for Sean Baker’s Anora, while White recently starred in Season 3 of FX’s The Bear and will appear this fall in the biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
