Mohammadreza Riyazi passed away

Mohammadreza Riyazi, a veteran of cultural heritage, has passed away.

According to cinemadrame, archaeologist Ali Sedraei announced on Sunday, June 16, 2024, via a social media post that Mohammadreza Riyazi had passed away due to cardiac arrest. The National Museum of Iran, in its condolence message, stated that Riyazi passed away on June 15, 2024.

Born in 1949 in the village of Kesheh, Taraqrud district, Natanz County, Isfahan Province, Riyazi officially joined the Ministry of Culture and Art in late 1974, working in the financial and administrative department of the Archaeological Center. In 1979, he transferred to the library of the National Museum of Iran. Riyazi held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography and completed a master’s degree in archaeology at the University of Tehran in the 1990s. He also taught archaeology, museology, architecture, and art research at universities across the country.

In addition to his research in art history and archaeology, Riyazi’s professional career included roles such as Head of the Library of the National Museum of Iran, member of the Research Council of the National Museum, representative of the Cultural Heritage Organization in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Committee, and lecturer in Iranian and world art history at institutions like the University of Tehran, Alzahra University, Shahid Beheshti University (Iranology Foundation), Art University of Tehran, Cultural Heritage Training Center, and Art University of Isfahan.

Riyazi authored over 70 books and articles on Iranian and world art and civilization. His notable works include:
