Naomi Ackie Joins DC’s Clayface Film

According to CinemaDrame news agency, Naomi Ackie, known for Mickey 17 and Blink Twice, is joining DC and Warner Bros.’ film Clayface.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ackie is soon entering negotiations to join Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, who was previously cast as the supervillain Clayface.

James Watkins, director of last year’s remake Speak No Evil, will direct the film. The final screenplay is written by Hossein Amini, known for Drive, while the initial draft was penned by Mike Flanagan. The film, produced by Matt Reeves and Lyn Harris, will enter production this fall.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that the movie is being made with a $40 million budget. James Gunn had previously stated that the film’s genre would be horror.

The character Clayface first appeared in DC comics in 1940 as a failed actor who turns to crime wearing a clay-like mask. His shapeshifting ability was introduced in 1961. The role has been voiced or played by Ron Perlman in Batman: The Animated Series (1990s), Brian McManamon in the Gotham TV series, and Alan Tudyk in the animated series Harley Quinn.

Ackie portrayed Whitney Houston in the 2022 film I Wanna Dance With Somebody and starred opposite Channing Tatum in Blink Twice last year. The British actress currently has the film Sorry Baby in theaters and will soon appear in Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club.

DC Studios will release Clayface on September 11, 2026.
