“Outcry” Film Wins Special Jury Prize at Karlovy Vary Festival

According to cinemadrame News Agency, the film “Outcry” (Bidād), directed by Soheil Beiraghi, won the Special Jury Prize at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The jury members for this edition were Babak Jalali, Jiří Mádl, Jessica Kiang, Tuva Novotny, and Nicolas Saada.
The Crystal Globe Grand Prix of this festival edition was awarded to the film “Better Go Mad in the Wild” from the Czech Republic, directed by Miro Remo. The award for Best Director was shared by Vytautas Katkus for “The Visitor” from Lithuania and Nathan Ambrosioni for “Out of Love” from France.
Pia Tjelta won Best Actress for her role in “Don’t Call Me Mama” from Norway, and Àlex Brendemühl won Best Actor for “When a River Becomes the Sea.”
This year’s ceremony saw the presence of actors such as Vicky Krieps, Dakota Johnson, Stellan Skarsgård, Peter Sarsgaard, and Michael Douglas, all of whom received honorary awards.
The film “Outcry,” starring Amir Jadidi, Sarvin Zabihian, and Leili Rashidi, tells the story of a woman who turns to street singing despite a ban. The film was shot underground, and its name was not announced until a few days before the Karlovy Vary Festival in the Czech Republic to ensure the safety of its creators.
