Peaky Blinders Writer Tapped to Pen Script for “James Bond 26”

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Amazon Studios has hired Steven Knight, the writer of the series Peaky Blinders, to write the screenplay for the twenty-sixth installment of “James Bond,” which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the project, taking over from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
A new actor for the role of James Bond has yet to be selected, but Deadline reports that Amazon chose to secure a screenwriter before making a casting decision. Knight, who is British, met with Villeneuve last week while the director is filming Dune 3 in Europe and has Villeneuve’s support for the project. The new James Bond is expected to be announced in the coming months, once Villeneuve wraps filming and Knight completes the script.
In addition to Peaky Blinders starring Cillian Murphy, Knight’s credits include BBC’s Taboo, Apple TV+’s See, BBC’s This Town, Netflix’s All the Light We Cannot See, and many others. He is also one of the creators of the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and has written the screenplay for the upcoming Peaky Blinders feature film. Another project he is working on is the Netflix historical drama House of Guinness.
Variety reports that Amazon is seeking a “British actor under 30” for the role of James Bond, and is currently considering candidates such as Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, and Jacob Elordi.
Amazon acquired the rights to produce the James Bond franchise in 2022 by purchasing MGM, and in March, announced new producers with an additional $1 billion investment to expand the franchise to television.
