Introduction to Rambod Javan’s Latest Film “Pressure Cooker”
After years away from filmmaking, Rambod Javan returns with his latest movie, Pressure Cooker. Javan, whose last film Negar premiered in 2019, has since been active with the television program Khandevaneh and the series Mardom-e Mamooli on Filimo. Now, with Pressure Cooker, he seeks to rekindle the joy of his previous cinematic successes. Below is a look at the plot and behind-the-scenes details of this film.
Summary of the Storyline
As revealed in preliminary information, Pressure Cooker is set in the 1980s and revolves around the character Cyrus, who was an idler and vagrant before the revolution. After the revolution, he starts engaging in minor illegal activities with his brother-in-law, Shahin, to make a living. They carry out small hustles such as selling VHS tapes and playing cards. Both families live together in the home of their father-in-law, Ghodrat.
After Cyrus loses his wife, he continues to live with Ghodrat’s family while pursuing illicit dealings with Shahin. Meanwhile, Shahin’s wife is expecting twins, making life more difficult for everyone. Ghodrat insists that Cyrus leave the house, but Cyrus refuses and looks for excuses to stay. The explosion of a pressure cooker in Ghodrat’s workshop drastically changes the lives of these two brothers-in-law. They devise a scheme to present Ghodrat as a martyr of a Tehran bombing and exploit the situation to their advantage. The filmmakers seem to lean into 1980s nostalgia, crafting an intriguing narrative that explores the atmosphere of those days.
