Robert Carlyle to Play Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of Watson

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Scottish actor Robert Carlyle, 64, will portray Sherlock Holmes in Season 2 of CBS’s Watson series. Morris Chestnut stars as Dr. John Watson.
Watson is a modern reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic characters, shifting the focus from criminal cases to medical mysteries. In the first season, Watson and his team defeated Moriarty (played by Randall Park), but remain determined in Season 2 to investigate and treat some of the world’s rarest diseases. This season, Watson is shocked by the return of Sherlock Holmes—long presumed dead—and is confronted with secrets buried in the past.
Carlyle is known for his collaborations with Danny Boyle in films such as Trainspotting and 28 Weeks Later, as well as his roles in series like Once Upon a Time and COBRA. He won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Full Monty.
Showrunner and executive producer Craig Sweeny previously told Deadline that he originally had no plans to introduce Sherlock into the series: “If you’re centering the story on Watson and want to give him a chance to shine, you definitely don’t want him competing with the most famous character in literary history. So for me, the most natural structure was to begin with Holmes’s death at the Reichenbach Falls. Of course, even in Conan Doyle’s stories, Sherlock never truly dies.”
Season 1 of Watson received a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
