Rumor: Robin to Appear in The Batman: Part II

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jeff Sneider has reported on his The InSneider blog that the character of Robin will appear in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II. Warner Bros. confirmed in a letter to shareholders this week that filming on the long-delayed sequel will begin next spring.

Sources close to Sneider describe Reeves’ script as notably different from the first film, saying it will be worth the five-year wait. Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Batman: Part II will be released in October 2027, exactly five years after the original.

With Robin entering the story, the film’s tone will inevitably shift, lightening the heavy atmosphere of the first installment. Over the decades, the role has been portrayed by Chris O’Donnell in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, and by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

Under the leadership of James Gunn, DC Studios has recently produced Superman and is developing The Brave and the Bold, directed by Andy Muschietti — though that film’s universe will be separate from Reeves’ Batman saga.

Production on The Batman: Part II was first announced in April 2022, about a month after the release of the first film, which starred Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Paul Dano as Riddler.

The Batman: Part II is currently slated for release in October 2027.
