Sebastian Stan Joins Frankenstein by Radu Jude

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Sebastian Stan has joined the new adaptation of Frankenstein directed by Radu Jude. Cultura La Duba in Romania confirms the production of this project, while Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation will soon be released on Netflix, and Maggie Gyllenhaal has directed another version titled The Bride starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley.
Jude says:
“I had an idea for a story that began with CIA black sites on Romanian soil twenty years ago, and then intertwined with another cinematic legend—the Frankenstein monster. I shared this idea with Sebastian, and he responded positively. So I began writing the screenplay, but it will take some time.”
After the acclaimed film Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (2025), Radu Jude has two upcoming films: Kontinental ’25, which won the Best Screenplay award at the Berlin Film Festival, and Dracula, set to premiere soon at Locarno. Jude shot both films entirely on smartphones to reduce production costs.
Martin Scorsese, one of Jude’s admirers, said last December:
“There is a director named Radu Jude… He is different. Especially his film Aferim, which was shot entirely in black and white, and another film that I have no doubt won’t suit everyone’s taste, Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World. That one is astonishing—it tackles politics, cinema, ethics, corruption, portrays them all, then shatters and fragments them, and suddenly, you see the world in a completely different way.”
