Seventh Final Destination Film in the Works

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, New Line Cinema is developing the seventh installment of the Final Destination franchise. Following the record-breaking success of Final Destination: Bloodlines in May, the studio has begun production on the next chapter with that film’s writer, Lori Evans Taylor, attached to pen the script.

Producers Toby Emmerich, Dianne McGunigle, Jon Watts, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry are returning to oversee the 25-year-old franchise.

Bloodlines, written by Taylor and Guy Busick from a story by Jon Watts and directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, grossed $51 million in its opening week, breaking franchise records. The film went on to surpass $285 million worldwide, pushing the Final Destination series to a cumulative $983 million — making it New Line’s third highest-grossing franchise after The Conjuring and It. The movie was also well received by critics, earning a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 75% on Metacritic.

The Final Destination series follows characters who foresee deadly events and attempt to prevent them from happening. Bloodlines centers on a college student who seeks out a mysterious figure in an effort to save herself and her family from death’s cycle. The cast includes Tony Todd, Brec Bassinger, Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee.

Taylor’s other credits include adapting The Edge of Normal, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, which wrapped production last spring.
