ShahRukh Khan Wins India’s ‘National Award’ for the First Time

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, ShahRukh Khan has received the National Award for Best Actor for the first time in his more than three-decade acting career. The 59-year-old actor won the award last Friday for his performance in the action film Jawan.

In the film, he plays a dual role as army commando Vikram Rathore and his son Azad, who leads a group of prisoners. Deepika Padukone also stars in the film, directed by Atlee Kumar.

ShahRukh Khan shared the award with Vikrant Massey, recognized for his role in 12th Fail, which tells the story of police officer Manoj Kumar.

The jury, chaired by Ashutosh Gowariker, described ShahRukh Khan’s performance in Jawan as “powerful,” stating: “This award goes to an actor who has delivered a commanding performance, balancing raw anger with depth, and brought to life a hero who fights not just enemies but also society, creating two unforgettable cinematic characters.”

ShahRukh Khan began his acting career in 1988 with the television series Fauji and entered Bollywood in 1992 with the film Deewana. Previously, he has received 14 Filmfare Awards, India’s Padma Shri, as well as the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour from France.

ShahRukh Khan’s fans on social media have remarked that this award was “long overdue,” especially for his performances in Swades, Chak De! India, and My Name Is ShahRukh Khan.

In May, ShahRukh Khan became the first Indian male actor to attend the Met Gala in New York.
