Sophie Turner: “Game of Thrones” Was My Teenage Sex Education

According to Cinemadrame News Agency, Sophie Turner says the fantasy series “Game of Thrones” taught her about sex in her teenage years. In a new interview on the “Dish” podcast, the 29-year-old actress recalled the “amazing” experience of filming the series over nine years, stating: “It taught me everything about life in terms of career decisions, on-set etiquette, and acting. I learned everything from ‘Game of Thrones’ – and a little from my parents.”

Turner auditioned for the role of Sansa Stark at age 12 and began filming two years later. She was 23 when production on the eighth and final season concluded.

Turner admits she still hasn’t watched the entire series because she doesn’t like to see herself on screen. She emphasized that she “loved” filming the series alongside actors such as Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Lena Heade.

The British actress added that she never received “formal training” for acting and learned lessons from other cast members who were like family to her. Watching explicit scenes during filming served as her sex education.

Turner acknowledged that the show’s sex scenes were “truly insane” and jokingly added: “I definitely got my sex education from that show. Much more than I needed.”

In October 2024, Turner told Variety that she “might” play Sansa Stark again: “I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and crew, otherwise I wouldn’t go back, and it could be a ninth season. I don’t think we’re going to do a ninth season.”

Three years ago, she told “The Cut” magazine: “It’s something I learned from growing up on a show like ‘Game of Thrones’; the show was so intense that I developed a mechanism to have the most fun between takes, so I wouldn’t be traumatized. Undoubtedly, the signs of trauma will show themselves in the future. At that age, I don’t think I understood the significance of those scenes.”
