Spider-Punk Animated Film in the Works with Daniel Kaluuya Voicing the Lead

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Sony Pictures Animation is developing Spider-Punk, an animated film written by Oscar-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Ajoon Singh.

Details about the plot have not been disclosed, but it is expected that Kaluuya will reprise his role as the voice of Spider-Punk following his appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and its upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, set for release in 2027.

The character of Spider-Punk, whose real name is Hobie Brown, was first created by writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel. Unlike Peter Parker, this version of Spider-Man is an anarchist and anti-establishment figure, living on Earth-138, whose fight against corrupt systems has made him a voice for protesters. Spider-Punk made his first appearance in issue #10 of The Amazing Spider-Man comic in 2015.

Across the Spider-Verse, with Kaluuya voicing Spider-Punk, is the second installment of Sony Pictures Animation’s acclaimed Spider-Man trilogy. The first film, Into the Spider-Verse, grossed over $394 million worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Across the Spider-Verse was Oscar-nominated and earned over $690 million globally. Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to premiere on June 25, 2027.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland is currently filming the live-action Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for release in July 2026. Sony is also expanding the Spider-Man universe with the series Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, which will stream on MGM+.

Oscar-winner Kaluuya is currently filming an untitled A24 project opposite Chris Rock. He recently directed The Kitchen for Netflix and is set to appear in the upcoming film Barney.
