The film Babygirl received a seven-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival

“Babygirl,” directed by Halina Reijn and starring Nicole Kidman, received a seven-minute standing ovation at the 81st Venice Film Festival. The film’s erotic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 20 reviews, stands at 90%.
The story, written and directed by Reijn, is about a successful CEO, played by Kidman, who begins an illicit relationship with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson. Other actors in the film include Antonio Banderas, Jean Reno, and Sophie Wilde.
At the film’s red carpet event, many celebrities, including Camila Mendes, Kaya Scodelario, Lili Reinhart, and Ella Purnell, posed for photographers. A24 studio will take “Babygirl” to the Toronto Film Festival after Venice and release it in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day.
At the press conference for the film, Kidman spoke about the “liberating” experience of making the film: “Yes, this film is clearly about sex and desire, about inner thoughts, about secrets, marriage, truth, power, mutual consent… It’s the story of a woman, and I hope it will be very liberating. It’s told from a woman’s perspective… and I think that’s what makes it unique because suddenly, I found myself holding this story in the hands of a woman. It was very precious and very liberating for our shared instincts.”
A24 will release “Babygirl” on December 20.
