The film The Order, starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival

According to cinemadrame, the film The Order, directed by Justin Kurzel, received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday night this week. The film currently holds a 75% rating from 12 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kurzel, along with actors Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Journey Smollett, and Ty Sheridan, attended the screening at the Sala Grande in Venice, where they embraced after the film was shown.

Set in 1983, the film depicts a series of violent bank robberies, car thefts, and other crimes in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The Order follows a lone FBI agent, played by Jude Law, who is based in Idaho and comes to believe that the crimes are not financially motivated by criminals but are instead orchestrated by dangerous domestic terrorist groups led by a charismatic and radical figure, played by Nicholas Hoult, who is planning a war against the federal government of the United States.

Hoult had mentioned in a press conference just before the screening of The Order at Venice that he and Law hadn’t spoken for four weeks to create more distance between their characters. Law, discussing the film’s connection to radical groups, said, “Unfortunately, the connection is clear. It seemed like a film that had to be made today. It’s always interesting to find something relevant to the present day.” Kurzel added, “This film is about a very dangerous ideology and how quickly it can spread.” Vertical Entertainment will release The Order in the U.S. starting December.
