The film Wolves, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, received a 5-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival

According to cinemadrame, the premiere of Wolves at the Venice Film Festival received a 5-minute standing ovation from the audience. The film, starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, was screened this past Sunday night in the Out of Competition section of the 81st Venice Film Festival.

Other stars, such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett, were seen at the event, sitting together in the Sala Grande. Before the opening ceremony, hundreds of people lined up on the red carpet to see Pitt and Clooney. The film’s director, John Watts, was absent from the event and the press conference held hours before the screening due to contracting COVID-19.

Wolves follows two lone operatives, played by Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who are assigned to a single mission. Oscar-nominated actress Amy Ryan also stars in the film. Clooney and Pitt produced the project through their companies, Smokehouse Pictures and Plan B Entertainment.

During the press conference, Pitt and Clooney expressed their disappointment that Wolves would not have the wide release initially planned by Apple and Sony. Clooney called Apple’s decision “a letdown,” saying, “On the other hand, many people will see the film in hundreds of theaters, but yes, a wide release would have been much more pleasant.”

Pitt added that he had been waiting for the right opportunity to collaborate again with Clooney in recent years: “We realized that there should be a good reason to work together again, something beyond what we’ve already done. But at the same time, I have to say that as we get older, working with people I enjoy spending time with has become more important to me.”

Wolves will be released on September 20 and will be available to Apple TV+ subscribers on September 27.
