The filmmaker of the documentary “Julian Assange” withdraws from the Sundance Festival.

The director of the documentary Julian Assange: The 6 Billion Dollar Man announced his withdrawal from the Sundance Film Festival.
According to Cinemadrame, Eugene Jarecki, the director of this documentary, wrote in a statement: “The truth is that recent and unexpected developments in the heart of the story have emerged, and if they are not included in the Sundance version, it will not represent a finished film. The Sundance Festival has shaped my career and been the cornerstone of my journey in cinema; only something this significant could make me pull back.”
The film was scheduled to be showcased as a special presentation at the Sundance Festival. The 41st Sundance Film Festival will be held as planned from January 23 to February 2, 2025 (4 to 14 Bahman) in Park City and Salt Lake City.
According to Screen, Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks and the subject of this documentary, is facing 175 years in prison for leaking highly classified U.S. documents. After serving five years of imprisonment in the UK, he reached an agreement in the summer to avoid extradition to the United States and has since returned to Australia.
American documentary filmmaker Eugene Jarecki won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005 for Why We Fight and in 2012 for The House I Live In.
